1.                  Does The Exchange collect personal information?

In Australia, collection and handling of personal information is regulated by the Privacy Act 1988. Personal information is basically information or an opinion which can identify you.

The purpose of this Privacy Statement is to explain how the content storage, management and delivery system for The Le@rning Federation online curriculum content (Exchange ) can collect personal information about you, and how we might use, disclose and handle that personal information.

However, you should know that The Exchange’s policy is to respect your privacy.

There are 2 ways in which The Exchange collects information that may be personal information. These are explained below.

(a)                User ID

In order for you to be able to access The Exchange, we must issue you with a User ID and a password.

Before we issue you with a User ID, we will collect your name and your email address. If you provide us with your personal information we will only use it in order to set up your account and verify your account. You can be assured that this personal information will be stored in a secure way. This is outlined in more detail at 4 below.

(b)                Clickstream Data

When you visit The Exchange our server makes a record of your visit and logs the following information:

·         your server address

·         your top level domain name (for example .com, .gov, .au, .net, .edu, etc)

·         the time and date of your visit to The Exchange

·         the pages and documents you have accessed or viewed

·         the type of browser you are using

·         successful or unsuccessful login attempts

Generally, this information will identify the computer you are using and your User ID.

2.                  How we use personal information

The Exchange only uses personal information for the reason you provide it to us. For example, the information we collect in order to issue your User ID will only be used in order to set up your account and will then be stored for our own administrative purposes. We won’t provide it to anyone else unless you ask us to.

The only other way we would “use” personal information is for purely statistical purposes (eg to calculate how many people are using the Exchange). The reason we collect information about the use of The Exchange (whether through clickstream data, or through aggregating statistics about users) is that we need this information for:

·         web site and system administration, including monitoring to prevent security breaches;

·         developing improvements for The Exchange;

·         research and development; and

·         to produce statistics about the “traffic” on the web site. These statistics may be published, but not in a way which will identify any individual.

No attempt will be made to identify individual users other than as disclosed in this Privacy Statement or if The Exchange is required or authorised to disclose personal information by law.

3.                  Access to the Personal Information we collect

Under the Privacy Act, you have a right to access personal information which The Exchange holds about you.However, this information will be limited to the information which you provide to the Exchange.

If you wish to access or correct personal information which The Exchange may hold about you, please contact us, using the details provided at 6 below.

4.                  Security of your Personal Information

We take all reasonable steps to ensure that the information (including personal information) we hold in our servers is not subject to loss, misuse or unauthorised access or alteration. We also take reasonable steps to destroy or permanently de-identify personal information if it is no longer required. In accordance with the Terms and Conditions of Use of the web site, however, The Learning Federation cannot accept any liability for any loss suffered by you as a result of unauthorised access to The Exchange.

Please be aware that you can also protect the security of information you provide to The Exchange by not disclosing your User ID and password to any other person.
